HALF TERM STORY-TELLING EVENT

Rudyard Kipling’s

JUST SO STORIES

This autumn half-term bring the children to Low Fell Library to listen to some of the quirky animal stories written by the author of The Jungle Book.

Funny, imaginative and best read aloud, these fanciful tales of how certain animals came to possess their distinguishing feature were in answer to questions asked by Kipling’s daughter, Josephine. How did the elephant get his trunk? How did the camel get his hump or the leopard his spots?

The stories are written in an amusing style, and peppered with invented words – perhaps an exaggeration of the formal ways of speaking Kipling heard in India, where he was born and then worked as a young man. In each story, he addresses the reader or listener as “Best Beloved”, reinforcing the intimate nature of story-telling and recalling Josephine, or “Effie” his beloved, firstborn child.

We invite you to enter Kipling’s magical world at on Wednesday, 26th October  2 - 3pm. Tickets cost £2, which includes refreshments for both children and adults. Suggested age is 6+, all children under 8 to be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available at the library. Please order in advance to secure a place
