Children's Art Competition - World Book Day 2018

Our popular World Book Day competition returns! As does Head Judge, North East artist and illustrator, Zoe Emma Scott!

The competition opens on World Book Day, Thursday 1st March 2018, and closes on Thursday 29th March 2018.

Competition Rules

Imagine you are an illustrator who has been asked to design a front cover for one of a series of adventure stories, set around the world, by an author named A.Taleteller.

The books in the series are:

  • The Magical Secret of the Statue of Liberty
  • The Phantom of the Pyramids
  • Treachery at the Taj Mahal
  • Drama at the Great Buckingham Palace Bake-Off
  • Australian Animal Rescue at Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • Victory for Newcastle United at Camp Nou!
  • Easter Egg Extravaganza at the Eiffel Tower
  • The Hidden Treasure of the Great Wall of China
  • The Mysterious Monster of Edinburgh Castle
  • Tightrope Terror at Niagara Falls

Choose the title you like best and get illustrating! The cover should include; the landmark mentioned in the book title, the book title, the author’s name and your name as the illustrator, but apart from this the design of the cover is up to you.

Your illustration should be A4 size. You may use pens, pencils or paints, but not a computer.

There are three age categories. These are; Key Stage 1 (age 5-7), Lower Key Stage 2 (age 7-9) and Upper Key Stage 2 (age 9-11).

Please write your name, school year (e.g. Year 1, 2 etc.), age, birthday, address and telephone number on the back of your illustration.

Please hand in your competition entry to a member of staff at the library.

The closing date for the competition is 29 March 2018. We will announce the winners at the beginning of the summer term.

The prizes are; a £25 book token (first prize), a £15 book token (second prize) and a £10 book token (third prize) for each age category.

The prizes will be presented at an award ceremony to be held in the summer term.
