The Embroiderers Guild was founded more than 100 years ago by 16 graduates of the Royal School of Art. It now has over 22,000 member throughout the UK and abroad and is one of this country’s leading craft associations and educational charities.

This exhibition displays work by members of the Newcastle upon Tyne branch of the Embroiderers Guild. Founded in 1953, it was the first branch serving the whole of the north east. Since then 11 other branches have formed in the region.

We welcome anyone who is interested in any area of embroidery, whether beginner or experienced, and anyone interested in textiles and/or textile art.

At our local branch we meet regularly to listen to speakers, attend workshops, learn new skills and build on existing ones.  We participate in local, regional and national projects. Last year we were involved in a nationwide celebration of Capability Brown; our work in the north east being displayed at the National Trust’s properties of Gibside and Wallington.
