LOW FELL LIBRARY
Post date: Nov 01, 2016 11:43:33 AM
The library is hosting a very special exhibition over the Festive Season! Make sure you take this unique opportunity of viewing a collection of paintings by the talented and well-known Gateshead artist, Charlie Rogers, who has been painting Tyneside sights for more than 50 years. Now aged 86, self-taught Charlie started to sketch and paint in the 1960s using the streets and back lanes of Gateshead and the local characters he knew as subject matter. Many of the buildings he painted over the years no longer exist, his delicate watercolours serving as a poignant reminder of a Tyneside that now only lives on in the memory.
Born near Saltwell Park but now living in Low Fell, Charlie has exhibited 4 times at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and his work is represented in many public and private collections in the UK.
Loaned by a private collector, this retrospective exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Charlie Rogers’ late wife, Anne. Some prints of the paintings will be for sale.
Preview at 7pm on 23rd November by invitation only. Please phone the library for details.
