Set in Mississippi in 1962 amidst the turbulence of the Civil Rights movement, The Help tells the story of an unjust world in which black maids raise white children but are not trusted with the silver. Three women form an unlikely friendship and start their own quiet revolution. Aibleen and Minny work for white families. Aibleen is raising her seventeenth white child while living with the memory of her son’s tragic death. Minny is an excellent cook, but finds it difficult to hold her tongue and thus keep a job. Skeeter belongs to a white family; she returns home with a degree but her mother will not be happy until she has a ring on her finger. The three women embark on a clandestine book project, which crosses established boundaries and puts them all at risk…
